Responsible for assisting physicians with patient care, clerical, environmental and organizational tasks. Responsible for appointment scheduling and chart management. Provides information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from clinic services. Represents clinic and ACMG in a positive manner. May be assigned to specific medical specialty to assist with patient care related to that specialty.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned, including the following:
a. Checking schedules and organizing patients flow;
b. Accompanying patients to exam/procedure room;
c. Assisting patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collection specimens, preparing for exams, etc.;
d. Collecting patient history;
e. Performing screenings, per provider guidelines;
f. Assisting physicians/nurses with various procedures;
g. Charting;
h. Relaying instructions to patients/family members;
i. Answering phone calls and providing pertinent information.
2. Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned, including the following:
a. Sending/receiving patient medical records;
b. Obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.;
c. Completing forms/requisitions as needed;
d. Knowledge of computer system and scheduling of appointment;
e. Verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics;
f. Manages information including charting to ensure information is completed and filed appropriately.
3. Fulfills environmental responsibilities as assigned, including the following:
a. Setting up instruments and equipment according to department protocol;
b. Cleaning exam/procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control;
c. Cleaning sterilizer according to scheduled maintenance program and keeping appropriate records;
d. Ordering, sorting, storing supplies;
e. Restocking exam/procedure rooms.
4. Fulfills organizational responsibilities as assigned, including the following:
a. Respecting/promoting patient rights;
b. Responding appropriately to emergency codes;
c. Communicating problems to immediate supervisor related to patient and/or staff.
KNOWLEDGE:
1. Knowledge of health care field and/or medical specialty.
2. Knowledge of managed care insurance and occupational medicine.
3. Knowledge of information that must be conveyed to patients and family members.
4. Knowledge of computer system and scheduling appointments.

ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:
Combination of medical office and exam/procedure room settings. Well lighted, well ventilated, adequate space. Exposure to communicable diseases, including bloodborne pathogens, and other conditions common to the clinic setting. Office is a non-smoking environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing is required
2. Must be able to use appropriate body mechanics/techniques when making patient transfers and assisting patients with physical tasks.
3. May be required to list up to 30 pounds.
4. May be required to handle stressful situations resulting from diverse customers and demands.

EDUCATION: High school diploma (or equivalent), some college preferred. Training as a medical assistant through a formal training course, or through documented on-site experience.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of one year experience in public contact position, preferably service related. Experience or interest in health care.
REQUIREMENTS: May be required to change work assignment location from time to time, as company needs demand. Must maintain CPR certification.
